Terms of use
Last updated: August 26, 2026
These terms govern your use of Ghostkey, the AI-assisted writing studio available at ghost-key.app and as desktop and mobile apps. By creating an account you agree to them. Questions: support@ghost-key.app.
The service
Ghostkey is a studio for writing novels: an editor, planning and analysis tools, and AI features that assist with editing, outlining, research, and marketing. Your projects are stored in the cloud and sync across your devices. Features vary by plan, and each plan's AI features come with a usage allowance that resets monthly.
Your account
You must be at least 16, give a real email address, and keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your account. One account is for one person.
Your writing stays yours
You own everything you create in Ghostkey — manuscripts, notes, outlines, boards, all of it. We claim no rights over your work beyond the limited license we need to operate the service: storing your content, syncing it between your devices, backing it up, and processing it through the features you invoke. That license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for residual copies in backups that expire on their own schedule.
AI features
- AI output is assistance, not authorship. Ghostkey is designed so that AI-generated prose is never inserted into your manuscript: editing features propose corrections for you to approve, and analysis features produce commentary that lives alongside your text. What's in your book is what you wrote.
- AI can be wrong. Suggestions, analyses, research results, and market guidance are generated by statistical models and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable. Judge them as you would any advice; decisions about your work, and any use of AI output, are yours.
- Allowances. Metered AI features draw on a per-plan monthly allowance that resets each month; unused runs don't carry over. Features your plan shows as unlimited aren't counted, within the fair use described below.
Plans, billing, and cancellation
- Paid plans are monthly subscriptions billed through Stripe. They renew automatically until cancelled.
- You can cancel at any time from your account screen; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period, and your account then continues on the free plan with all of your content intact.
- Plan changes take effect immediately, with charges prorated by Stripe.
- If we change a plan's price, we'll tell you by email at least 30 days before it affects you.
- By subscribing you ask us to start the service immediately, which under EU consumer law waives the 14-day withdrawal right once performance begins — but if something's wrong, write to us and we'll sort out a fair resolution.
Fair use
Some features are included without a run counter, and your plan shows them as unlimited. Unlimited means what it says for someone writing their own books: write, dictate, and revise as much as you like, at whatever pace the work takes, and we won't meter you. It isn't a licence to run the service like a pipeline.
So that the word can stay honest, we ask that you use these features personally and by hand. Concretely, that rules out:
- driving features from scripts, bots, or any automation, or leaving one running unattended to consume capacity;
- sharing an account between people, or making Ghostkey available to others as a service of your own;
- volume that plainly isn't one person's writing — bulk-processing a catalogue that isn't yours to write, or generating output at a rate no author could read.
These features cost us real money for every run, so if your usage sits far outside what the plan was priced for, we'll email you first and talk about it. Where we need to act, we will slow a feature down or ask you to move to a plan that fits, and only suspend an account where the use is deliberate abuse or continues after we've asked. We won't surprise you with a hidden cap: heavy, ordinary writing never trips this, and if we ever have to put a real number on an unlimited feature, we'll tell you before it applies.
Acceptable use
Don't use Ghostkey to break the law, infringe others' rights, or attack the service itself — no probing, scraping, reselling access, sharing accounts, or attempting to extract other users' data or our providers' credentials. We may suspend accounts that do.
Availability and your responsibility to export
We work to keep Ghostkey available and your work safe, but no online service is guaranteed to be uninterrupted. Manuscript export (DOCX, EPUB, HTML) is free on every plan, always — keep your own copies of work you can't afford to lose. We may add, change, or retire features; if we ever discontinue the service entirely, we'll give you at least 90 days' notice to export your work.
Termination
You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice unless the violation makes that unreasonable. On termination we delete your data as described in the privacy policy.
Disclaimers and liability
Ghostkey is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or the statutory rights you hold as a consumer.
Governing law
These terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer in the EU, you also keep the protections of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, and you may bring disputes before your local courts.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service evolves. For material changes we'll notify you by email or in the app at least 14 days before they take effect; continuing to use Ghostkey after that means you accept the new terms.
